Our sailings from Hanstholm in Denmark connect you to Egersund, Haugesund and Bergen in Western Norway.
Since January 2008 we also offer sailings between Hanstholm and Kristiansand. We can offer transportation for passengers, cars and freight.
We have two ships. The ”MS Bergensfjord” operate the stretch between Hanstholm and western Norway, it also sails between Kristiansand – Hanstholm during the winter season, departing every Thursday & Saturday. The "MS Fjord Cat" sails between Hanstholm and Kristiansand in the period 04.04 - 12.10. “MS Bergensfjord” has a capacity of 850 passengers, in addtion to 150 cars and 45 long-distance lorries, or 300 cars. “MS Fjord Cat”, operating between Kristiansand – Hanstholm, has a capacity of 670 passengers, as well as 190 cars and 4 buses.

Do you care about the cost of your ticket? We will explain how the pricing of tickets is done in Fjord Line, and what you can do to achieve the best prices available.
For a number of years Fjord Line have used the same tools for determining prices as, amongst others, airline companies. This means the prices vary from one day to the other, based on market demands. On days where few have already made their reservations, you will achieve a lower price than on a day where many reservations have been made.
However, this system involves the possibility of increase in prices by up to 50%. During summer we are usually fully booked and bookings are made well in advance. Sailings between October and March usually carry less passengers, and many place their reservations closer to the actual departure than in summer. This should offer a good chance of achieving a more favourable price, specially if you place your reservation early.
Our operational costs are the same in winter as in summer. In September 2007 we increased our basic prices by 10 %, due to increase in wages, fuel prices and harbour taxes, as well as environmental taxes and fees. However, this increase in price is not enough to cover our actual costs during winter. We therefore rely on filling our departures during summer, to make sure that our income is higher than our expenses. And just like booking a ticket with an airline, the last person to book will get the higher price.
The prices for 2008 were determined before Color Line announced their withdrawal from the market in Western Norway. Both Fjord Line and Color Line were operating with a higher capacity than what was required for most parts of the year, thus with low profits. Now, with Color Line not operating in the market we are experiencing growth and an increase in the number of bookings from Bergen, Haugesund and Egersund to Hanstholm. This contributes to establish a strong basis for Fjord Line’s future existence and makes it possible to increase our capacity by investing in a new vessel, on the same route as “MS Bergensfjord”. Changes in terms of competition has not led to increases in price. Today’s price levels equals the prices of 2004. Our philosophy has been and always will be, to offer travellers safe, comfortable and nice surroundings – but not super-classy. This also allows us to keep prices at a level which makes Fjord Line the best alternative for most people.
