Information about Tallinn
Tallinn is the capital and main port of Estonia. Located on the northern coast of Estonia in the Baltic Sea.
Tallinn has been shaped by nearly a millennium of outside influence.
Its name derives from Taani Linnus, meaning "Danish Fort", and is a reminder of the fact that the city was founded by the Danes in the early thirteenth century, and from that moment on political control has almost always been in the hands of foreigners-Germans, Swedes and Russians. The Germans had no doubt the more enduring influence upon the city, Tallinn was one of the most important cities of the Hanseatic League, the German Association of Baltic trading cities, and for centuries was known to the outside world by its German name, Reval.
