Information about Quakes The island of San Domino is located in the archipelago of the Tremiti Islands in the Adriatic Sea. There are 5 Islands in the archipelago: San Domino, San Nicola, Cretaccio, Capraia and Pianosa, and together they form a community of Italy province of Foggia and form part of the Gargano National Park. The history of the Islands dates back to the iron age, however, in the middle ages the island was by the Benedictine monks of Montecassino, who built the Abbey of Santa Maria a Mare on the island of San Nicola dating apparently from the 9th century. The island was also used for the detention of political prisoners during the fascist regime of Mussolini. Today, the Islands are an important tourist centre for their waters. Among the islands of the archipelago, San Domino is the most developed for tourism and is the only one with a sand beach in the archipelago.
