      For those departing from Milazzo, the most widely used port, tickets for a walk-on passenger start from around €14–20 per crossing to Vulcano and Lipari, up to €28–35 for the more distant islands such as Alicudi. These are fares for the traditional Siremar ferry; Liberty Lines hydrofoils are slightly more expensive but much faster. If you want to bring your car, factor in a supplement of €35–55 for the vehicle.

      The most convenient departure port depends on where you are, but there is an almost universal answer: Milazzo.

      Milazzo, in the province of Messina, is the main gateway to the Aeolian Islands: ferries and hydrofoils depart from here year-round to all seven islands of the archipelago — Lipari, Vulcano, Salina, Stromboli, Panarea, Filicudi, and Alicudi. The first sailings leave at around 7:00 in the morning, and in high season there are up to 30 departures per day. It is the port closest to the islands and the one with the highest frequency of connections, operated mainly by Liberty Lines and Siremar.

      Those coming from Campania can board directly from the port of Naples Mergellina, with seasonal hydrofoils (from May to September) that reach Lipari, Vulcano, Salina, Stromboli, and Panarea directly in 4–6 hours. For overnight crossings from Naples, the ferry departs from Calata Porta di Massa with a journey time of around 13 hours.

      Other available departure ports, especially in summer:
