      Limnos

      Information about Limnos
Lemnos is a Greek island located in the northern part of the Aegean Sea. It has an area of ??476 km² and has 17,000 inhabitants. It is mostly hilly with some fertile little valley. The most important center is Mirina on the west coast with an excellent natural harbor. A center of minor importance is Mudro. The island is an important military base by virtue of its location not far from the Straits of the Sea of ??Marmara.
From an administrative point of view, Lemnos belongs to the peripheral of the Northern Aegean (peripheral unit of Lemno).
Mirina, the capital, is a small picturesque village with a natural harbor dominated by a promontory connected to the mainland by a short isthmus. On the promontory are the ruins of the ancient Byzantine kastro, the fortress built by the Venetians in the XIII century, then the Turkish defenses that were destroyed in 1770 by the Russian fleet that besieged the island then under Ottoman rule.
Mirina (or Myrina) has a small but interesting archaeological museum where the archaeological finds from Poliochni, Kaveirio Efestia and Koukonisile are collected.

      Information about Lesvos
Lesbos is a Greek island located in the northeastern Aegean, facing the coasts of the Anatolian peninsula. The main center is Mytilene.
It is famous for having given birth, in the seventh century BC, to the lyric poets Alceo and Sappho. In the verses of Saffo we find the exaltation of the beauty of femininity and eros among women, hence the term lesbianism.
With an area of 1,630 km² Lesbos is the third largest Greek island by surface and the octave of the Mediterranean. Characterized by a conspicuous coastal development (320 km), it has a population of about 90.643 inhabitants at the 2001 census, a third of which reside in the capital Mytilene.
From an administrative point of view, it is a municipality and peripheral unit made up of the only homonymous municipality in the outskirts of the Northern Aegean.
