Info on Amorgos Katapola Amorgos is the easternmost island of the Cyclades archipelago, as well as the one closest to the Dodecanese archipelago, situated to the southeast of Naxos, 138 nautical miles (256 km) from Piraeus. The municipality of Amorgos occupies the island and some nearby islets, the largest of which is the island of Nikouria, and has an area of 126, 346 km2 and a population of 1 973 inhabitants.
Info on Koufonisi Koufonissia are two islands of the Small Cyclades southeast of Naxos and west of Amorgos. These are two distinct islands: • Kato koufonisi, inhabited only by a shepherd and his flock of sheep • Ano Koufonisi Usually Keros is also included in the group. Considered, until the nineties one of the last tourist paradises, the two islands were discovered and "invaded" by tourists of predominantly Swedish origin. The only inhabited center is Chora, on the southwest coast of Ano Koufonissi, on a small bay sheltered from the meltemi winds, facing the port where the ferries coming from Piraeus and Naxos dock. Chora has a Cycladic appearance with narrow streets and white houses with blue-stained doors and windows. Adding color is the old windmill on the top of the hill, visible from the ferry before entering the port. To the east of Chora, a paved road winds up and stops after a few kilometers. Along its route are the most popular beaches, the last of which is Foinikas. You can continue on foot or better by boat to discover more bays, such as Fanos and Italida, also called "platià Pounta" equally crowded in the summer months. Beyond still in the northern part of Ano Koufonissi and near Xilovati cape there is Poros, a less frequented sandy shore because of the winds that strike impetuously.
