Information about Lesvos Lesbos is a Greek island located in the northeastern Aegean, facing the coasts of the Anatolian peninsula. The main center is Mytilene. It is famous for having given birth, in the seventh century BC, to the lyric poets Alceo and Sappho. From an administrative point of view, the island is part of the southern Aegean outskirts and consists of the only municipality of Micono, whose territory also extends to the nearby islands of Delo, Rineia as well as numerous uninhabited islands, for a total of 105.2 km² of surface.
